What You'll Learn

This is the BBC micro:bit.

A software coding platform that easily links up hardware components. Turn micro:bit into a welcome sign and even a die that can be used in a board game.

Make it real!

Start creating real-life applications with built-in micro:bit sensors that can interact with the environment, like the thermometer, smart light, and magnetic lifter.

Do you speak Morse code?

Use the micro:bit’s built-in radio to send messages wirelessly with Morse code. You can also compose your own songs with your micro:bit as a speaker.

Go wild with LEDs.

Learn about micro:bit LED add-ons, so that you can get familiar with electronics and know how to put them together for inventions.

Invent yourself!

Show off what you have learned in the final project where you will build a DIY guitar and wearable gadgets.

Preparation

  • Bring your own laptop with a charger and get Google Chrome installed
  • Macbook users may need to prepare a USB-C to USB connection cable

Education Tools

  • BBC micro:bit + sensor kits
  • Microsoft Makecode coding platform

Bring Home...

  • An attendance certificate
  • Your micro:bit
  • All your hardware inventions

What Parents Say

A pioneer in STEM education, their hands-on approach encourages kids to create their own projects by teaching both soft skills such as idea generation and presentation, and hard skills like coding and electric circuits. Kids get to learn in the real-life context.

Ms. Joey Law, TEDx Speaker

The program that my son attended is a perfect way to introduce our youth to the numerous possibilities of technology. My son was totally excited about the class and he came out of it with the confidence that he is able to create anything he imagines. This is truly powerful and inspiring.

Dr. Michael Sung, HKUST, School of Engineering

It was a mind blowing experience for my grandson. Monica is a great teacher! My grandson said that he wanted to be a Lego builder and an electronic engineer!
